Hi Gamblergirly,
I like poker for two reasons.
One, your playing with a group of friends, or other people anyway. So it's more of a community setting like bingo is.
Two, it's not all about luck, but largely about skill and patience.
I think the best place to learn poker is through the online freerolls at first. Just to get your feet wet anyway.
Poker is very addicting! The best way to find out what's so great about it, is to jump in and give it a try!

This is going to sound a little strange , but each hand is like a woman , unique with it's own qualities and attributes. To recognize the beauty that lies within and cherish each hand is basically what I think of it as (poker). When you score with a chick it is cool, and when your hand plays out to the maximum benefit possible it is a little like scoring with a chick. So if you like to live in harmony with your woman and listen to what she tells you, you may already have a deeper understanding of poker than you know. Maybe someone knows what I am talking about...lol ;)

the challenges it offers, the risk taking is the exciting part of the game. A game of mind, skills and strategy. When you win, you earn money, fame and respect from other players, not to mention the satisfaction of a job well done.

Poker for me is boring, that's why I like playing casinos instead. However I sometimes take part in freerolls, that offers huge winnings, like 1000K. Playing in that kind of tournament requires a different strategy than cash games, and I like that kind of excitements. For me they are the biggest thrill of poker. I do like those, going for free money I could almost say these multi-table tourneys are almost different games than cash games. :rolleyesx:

Also many perceive poker as a sport, rather than a game. One of the main reason is the media coverage of World Series of Poker we can watch in ESPN.

Playing poker gives certain thrill that you'll get addicted to the rush and excitement especially when you win a big hand. Most of all it has a lot of surprises, you definitely don't know what the next card will be and this keeps you at the edge of your seat.
Online poker is very different as you don't see your opponents so this becomes whole new ball game. Seeing your opponents and watching them play is very different from studying their game play online. Also, you get a lot of freebies/bonuses and offers in online poker.
